The year 2020 has proven to be one of the worst years so far. The world never saw this pandemic coming, and it has already enveloped the planet. The coronavirus pandemic has successfully ruined the lives of millions of individuals. As of September 2020, there have been 29 1/2 million active cases of coronavirus patients, and 212 million people have recovered. There have also been almost 1,000,000 deaths because of coronavirus. The statistics do not count the individuals who are asymptomatic. There have been millions of individuals who are asymptomatic and are leading regular lives. The numbers that I just stated our estimates which are close to the actual number. The world completely changed in the last ten months. No one is allowed to step out without a mask on their face. Everyone is prompted to wash their hands every single time they step out of the house. The world is basically upside down because of this pandemic, and there are many things that are going wrong because of it.
The year 2020 was actually supposed to be the year that sports betting exploded. But a worldwide pandemic did not allow that to happen. The economy tanked, and major sporting events were all cancelled all across the planet. As most states start to loosen the pandemic restrictions since we are already nine months in the pandemic, businesses have started to begin reopening because they could not afford to stay closed for longer. Some states have been waiting for sports gambling legislation so that they can bolster their economies and normalise the activities which many people participate in illegally.
In fact, two years ago, the United States Supreme Court overturned the PASPA (professional and amateur sports protection act). The act basically outlawed sports betting in virtually all states except Montana, Delaware, Oregon and some licensed casinos and sports places in Nevada. Some states actually took a step towards legalisation. Wisconsin, Idaho and Utah have not introduced a sports gambling bill at all. Virginia also happened to be the most recent state to approve legalisation and, in November, Maryland asks its voters whether they want to legalise sports gambling in the state or not.
In addition to all of this, the state senators from California recently announced that they are lobbying to put a constitutional amendment in the month of November in the elections to legalised sports betting. This state was actually on track to consider the legalisation in the year 2020, but because of the pandemic, the lawmakers in California are looking for new ways. rel=”dofollow”Sports gambling will not be an economy vaccine for money, but it will definitely help the economy, and it will offer a much-needed boost in revenue.
Ask Nevada how that’s working out for them.
I guess this answers the question “will sports gambling be legalised amidst a pandemic?”
